Braces & Aligners in Karnal

Maybe it's your teenager's crowded teeth and the school photos coming up. Or maybe it's you, smiling with your mouth closed for years, assuming braces are only for kids. Crooked teeth can be straightened at 14 or at 40, and there are quieter options than you might think.

โœ“ We reply within 15 minutes during clinic hours (Mon-Sat 10 AM-2 PM & 5 PM-8 PM)

How teeth straightening works

Teeth are not fixed in stone, they sit in living bone that reshapes itself when gentle, steady pressure is applied. Braces and aligners both use this fact: they nudge teeth a fraction of a millimetre at a time toward their correct positions. The bone fills in behind them, and the new position becomes permanent (with a retainer to hold it while it settles).

The pressure method differs, brackets and wires, or a series of clear removable trays, but the biology is the same. That's why the honest answer on duration is measured in months, not weeks: most treatments take 12-24 months, whichever option you choose. Anyone promising straight teeth in a few weeks is not being straight with you.

Is this right for me (or my child)?

Orthodontic treatment may help ifโ€ฆ

โœ“ Teeth are crowded, overlapping or twisted

โœ“ There are gaps you'd like closed

โœ“ The upper and lower teeth don't meet properly (affects chewing, not just looks)

โœ“ Your teen's adult teeth have come in crooked (ideal window: 12-16, but not a deadline)

โœ“ You're an adult who never got around to it, healthy teeth can be moved at any age

Hold on first ifโ€ฆ

โœ— Gums are inflamed or teeth have untreated decay, those must be fixed before moving teeth, and we'll sequence that for you

โœ— The concern is jaw position rather than tooth position, severe cases are skeletal, not dental, and may need corrective jaw surgery alongside braces. As a surgeon-led clinic, we assess both honestly instead of forcing a braces-only compromise.

Your three options, honestly compared

All three straighten teeth well when matched to the right case. The differences are visibility and the discipline required.

๐Ÿ”ฉ

Metal braces

Good: the workhorse, handles every type of case, including the most complex; sturdiest; nothing to remember or lose.

Honest downsides: the most visible option; some cheek irritation the first weeks; certain foods (hard, sticky) are off the menu; cleaning takes more effort.

Suits: teens, complex cases, and anyone prioritising sturdiness and simplicity.

๐Ÿค

Ceramic braces

Good: same mechanics as metal but tooth-coloured brackets, noticeably subtler in conversation and photos; handles most case types.

Honest downsides: brackets are bulkier and more brittle than metal (occasional breakages add visits); same food rules and cleaning effort as metal.

Suits: college students and working adults who want fixed braces without the full metal look.

๐Ÿ‘“

Clear aligners

Good: nearly invisible; removable, eat anything, brush normally; fewer clinic visits; most comfortable on cheeks and lips.

Honest downsides: works only if worn 20-22 hours every day, self-discipline is the treatment; not suitable for some complex movements; trays can be lost.

Suits: adults with mild-to-moderate crowding who will genuinely wear them.

What the journey looks like

  1. Consultation, records & plan, Visit 1-2 (45 minutes each)

Examination, X-rays, photos and impressions (or a digital scan). You see the plan and the realistic duration for your case before anything begins.

  2. Fitting, 1 visit (about 1 hour)

Braces are bonded on (no injections, no drilling, it's glue, not surgery), or your first aligner trays are fitted and checked. Expect a strange-full-mouth feeling and mild pressure-soreness for 3-5 days; soft food and normal painkillers cover it.

  3. Adjustments, every 4-6 weeks for 12-24 months

Short visits (15-30 minutes) to tighten wires or issue the next aligner sets. Each adjustment brings a day or two of pressure feeling, a sign the teeth are moving. This is the long, boring, effective middle of the journey.

  4. Retainers, after the braces come off

Teeth drift back if unguarded, so a retainer (removable or a thin fixed wire behind the teeth) holds the result. Anyone who skips this step risks going through treatment twice; we'll be blunt about that at the start, not the end.

The honest reality check

Does it hurt?

No injections, no surgery. Expect pressure-ache for 3-5 days after fitting and 1-2 days after each adjustment, annoying, not agonising. Wax on a rubbing bracket fixes most irritation.

How long, really?

12-24 months for most cases; simple gap closures can be under a year, complex bites can run longer. We'd rather tell you the real number at the consultation than a pretty one on a website.

Teens AND adults

Around a third of orthodontic patients today are adults. Teeth move at any age if gums are healthy, adult treatment just sometimes takes a few months longer. It is never "too late."

Why straighten teeth at this clinic?

Straightening teeth is a multi-year relationship, not a one-off procedure. You want a clinic that will still be watching your case closely at month 18, and one that examines the whole picture first.

Because this is a surgeon-led clinic, we check whether the problem is the teeth or the jaw itself before recommending anything.

Severe bite problems are sometimes skeletal, and braces alone would be half an answer. Where a case genuinely needs combined orthodontic and jaw surgery planning, that assessment happens here, you're told the truth at the consultation, not after two years of braces.

Braces questions, answered straight

What's the right age for braces? Is my child too young, or am I too old?
The smoothest window is 12-16, once most adult teeth are in and the jaw is still growing. But it's a convenience, not a deadline, we treat adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s regularly. A first orthodontic check around age 7-8 is worth it for kids, because a few problems are easier to intercept early. For adults, the only real requirement is healthy gums.
Do braces hurt?
Getting them on doesn't hurt, no injections, no drilling. The teeth then ache under pressure for 3-5 days (soft food, normal painkillers), and for a day or two after each monthly adjustment. Brackets can rub the cheeks at first; orthodontic wax sorts that out. Aligners are gentler on the cheeks but bring the same pressure feeling with each new tray.
Which foods are banned with braces?
With fixed braces: nothing very hard (whole apples, nuts, ice, cut hard food into pieces), nothing sticky (chewing gum, toffees, chikki), and go easy on sugary drinks since cleaning around brackets is harder. With aligners: no food restrictions at all, you remove the trays to eat, but you must brush before putting them back in.
Are clear aligners as good as braces?
For mild to moderate crowding, spacing and many bite issues, yes, results are comparable, provided you wear them 20-22 hours a day without fail. For complex movements (severely rotated teeth, large bite corrections), fixed braces still do the job better. We'll tell you plainly at the consultation if your case is one where aligners would be the weaker choice.
What happens if I skip the retainer at the end?
Teeth have a memory, for the first year or two after braces, they drift back toward their old positions unless held. Skipping the retainer is the most common reason people end up going through orthodontic treatment twice. Wearing a removable retainer (nightly, tapering over time) or a thin fixed wire behind the teeth protects the result. We build the retainer plan into your treatment from day one.
